How To Change Wireless Mode to Monitor Mode

Updated: Mar 29

Normally our device has managed mode. This mode will only capture packets that have our device’s MAC address as the destination MAC.

But we use Monitor Mode can listen to every packet that’s around us.

THIS TUTORIAL IS ONLY FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES ONLY AND PLEASE DO USE IT FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY

How to change to monitor mode

Step 1:

Checking the name fo your wifi card

First, you need to find out the mode which your wireless card is currently using. After that type in the following commands.

sudo iwconfig

Step 2:

Enabling Monitor Mode

Now you need to select the name of your wifi card for me its wlan0 so then I am going to type in

sudo airmon-ng start 'the name of your wifi card'

(For me its 'sudo airmon-ng start wlan0')

Step 3:

Checking If Monitor Mode Is Enabled

So now we need to check if monitor mode is enabled on our wifi card for this type in

sudo iwconfig

Step4 :

If the following process did not enable monitor mode

Type in this command before typing in ' sudo airmon-ng start 'name of your wifi card '

sudo airmon-ng check kill

Once you complete all the steps your device is eligible to listen to every packet that’s around you.
